President's Message Mar 2017
Dear Brother’s: A busy weekend lies ahead of the Division. We start Friday evening, with our monthly meeting at the Hall. We will review the events being held in honor of our own Brother, and Immediate Past President George Anderson, who is the Mid Hudson St. Patrick’s Day 2017 Grand Marshal.
Sunday, March 12, 2017 the day begins with a Mass at The National Shrine of our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, which is located at 70 Carmelite Drive, Middletown, New York, 10940. Immediately following the Mass, we will be gathering at Kuhl’s Highland House, locate at 412 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York, for the Grand Marshal’s Breakfast. NOTE: Advanced reservations are required!
The Parade lineup is scheduled for 1:00 PM at the Orange County Government Center, in the Village of Goshen, with a 2:00 PM step off.
At the conclusion of the Parade our Division will be hosting an “After Party at our Hall.” Please plan to come and share in this great day, with our own 2017 Grand Marshal George Anderson, and his Aide from Division 1, Brother Thomas P. Keahon, Sr. Tom, like George, has been very active in our Division affairs for several years. Brother Keahon has served on the Executive Board, as our Financial Secretary for the Division, and well as on the Board of the JDJ Corporation. The Parade After t Party at our Hall, will begin at 4:00PM with a cover charge of $10.00. Live Irish Music will be provided by Paul Cray, and we will be serving Corn Beef on Rye, topped off with an appearance by the AOH Pipe and Drums. I am sure that both George and Tom will have plenty of smiles to go around that day. Best to both Brothers on the honor well earned.
“I would like the membership to know this year marching behind our Division in the Parade; we will be having for the first time in public, the 1St Lt. Louis E. “Lou” Allen, Junior Division of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. “1st Lieutenant Louis E. Allen of the 42nd Infantry Division of NY Army National Guard was mortally wounded by a claymore mine in Iraq and died on June 8, 2005. He was a Physics and Earth Science teacher at George S. Baker High School in Tuxedo. He lived with his wife Barbara and their 4 boys in Milford, Pennsylvania. His Gold Star parents are Bob and Vivian Allen of Chester. Bob is an AOH Division 1 member. Lieutenant Louis Allen's death and the death of a fellow officer are tragic in that they were caused by the cowardly actions of a soldier in his command. That soldier who was accused and essentially admitted to his cowardly act, recently died in the state of Florida.” Brother Bob Allen and his wife, Vivian was attended the organizational meeting of the Junior Division, and expressed their deep appreciation the Junior Members of the AOH, for honoring their beloved son.A big welcome is extended to all our Junior Brothers on this great day, and on the formation of a wonderful organization. I expressed a desire to form the Junior Division, last year at the January meeting, when I became President. With the strong support and a vast amount of work of Brother’s Rob Ronayne, Neil O’Riordan and Bill Coffee, this endeavor has come to fruition. A special thank you and acknowledgement is extended to County President Tom McDonald, on running the meeting that day. New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade (BUS RIDE TICKETS) – please contact Brother Tom McCarthy if you want to reserve a seat on the bus. Tom’s email is TMccarthy@AOHDivision1.org. The cost of the bus is $ 30.00 which includes coffee and donuts, in the morning and food at the hall after the Parade. On Sunday, April 2, 2017 our Division will be hosting the viewing of the movie, “How to Defuse a Bomb, the Project Children Story” at the Monroe Movie Theater at 2:00 PM. This is a free event sponsored by the AOH Joseph Duelk, Jr. Division 1, Orange County. For tickets contact Brother Neil O’Riordan at aohdiv1@yahoo.com. The Project Children Story is about our member Denis Mulcahy, who is the co-founder of the Project Children. Brother Mulcahy is a retired 1st Grade Detective of the New York City Police Department, Bomb Squad. Brother Mulcahy has twice been nominated for the Noble Peace Prize, the first time being in 1979, narrowly losing to Mother Teresa and again in 1993 losing this time to Nelson Mandela. Please remember to purchase your Bethel Woods Raffle Tickets, you can ask any Board Member or any of the Bartenders at the Hall. This is a wonderful prize of season passes to Bethel Woods.
