Stand Up For Life

The following was an article from the Orange County Post: In April, on the day the Assembly was to consider the Motion to Discharge the Partial Birth Abortion Ban legislation from the Health Committee, the New York Times reported that Sheldon Silver, speaker of the Assembly, would introduce a new Partial Birth Abortion bill that day. His bill would be more acceptable to the liberal democrats than the Republican bill. He did not introduce the legislation Silver's staff released this information to confuse the Assembly members and help to defeat the Motion to Discharge.
The bill Silver is introducing is A10750 , this legislation reaffirms the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. The A10750 lists four conditions that will allow a physician to perform an abortion because the mother's health is in jeopardy.
The Pro Life community opposes this legislation because the " health of the mother" clause that would permit deliberately killing a baby during the delivery process, Partial Birth Abortion. This is the same argument President Clinton uses when he vetoes federal, Partial Birth Abortion legislation. When HEALTH problems permit physcians to use the abortion procedure, partial birth abortion would be legal at any time. One could find a doctor who would use any health concern as a reason to perform a partial birth abortion.
A legislator voting for A10750, which he knows will not prevent any partial birth abortions, will be able to tell his/her constituents that he/she voted to ban the procedure, partial birth abortion. They are voting for the bill to help them get re-elected in November. People in Albany call this type of vote a "safe vote" because it makes the legislator look good to his/her constituents; but the vote will not effect the outcome of the issue. You should respond immediately to your Assemblyman/woman .

 God Bless you.

Appeal to Mother Theresa

We marked last week 25 years, a quarter of a century, of legalized killing of defenseless unborn children from the moment of conception to birth. Every day some 4,000 children are violently dismembered and ripped from their mother's wombs. A group of Americans asked Mother Teresa, before her death, what to pray for. She replied, "an end to abortion." When the group asked again, she became frustrated and said, " Your land is under judgement because of this sin of abortion".

 God Bless you.

Roe vs. Wade

January 22nd 1998 marks the 25th anniversary of the Roe Vs. Wade decision by the Supreme Court of the United States which legalized abortion in this country. On this date every year the annual March for Life is held in Washington D.C. to protest this decision and show support for the unborn. This year our division is willing to pay for the trip to Washington D.C. for a member of our division. All that is asked in return is that you come to our February meeting to let us know what happened. If you are interested please contact Neil O'Riordan at 469-2345 or our President Patrick Grennan.

 God Bless you.

The 8th National Night of Prayer for Life

Let us bow down unison in adoration and reparation for the sins against the lives of innocent pre-born and helpless ones killed in today's society by abortion across the nation. The Vigil will begin at 9:15pm on Monday, December 8 and continue until 12:15pm on Tuesday, December 9. All are invited. Refreshments will be available during the 3 hour Vigil. For more information call Terry Hoffman at 783-6257.
In a soul searching article, Touched by Life, Senator Rick Santorum, leader of this years victorious Senate vote to ban partial-birth abortion, revealed that he learned one week after the vote that his unborn child had a " fatal defect and was "going to die". The senator and his wife rejected the abortion option, not once but twice, choosing instead to do everything possible to save their son's life. In Senator Santorum's words, " We chose to let Gabriel live and die in the fullness of time, being held and nurtured by two parents who loved him. His eyes never opened to see us, but he allowed us to see in him the face of God".

 God Bless you.

On Sunday October 5 the annual Life Chain in Middletown was held. The event was a great success with 1000 people attending and the weather was beautiful. Unfortuately not many people feel comfortable standing along a roadway holding a sign that says "Abortion Kills Children". There are other ways you can help. The Tri County Catholic Coalation for Life and Family's Communion breakfast is being held on Saturday, November 15th following the 9AM mass at Sacred Heart Church in Monroe. This group uses it's funds for helping crisis pregnancy centers and mothers in need, for more info call 496-6206. During our November 14th meeting I will have ten tickets for sale, $5.00 per individual or $15.00 for a family. As Hibernians, an Irish Catholic Organization we can show our support for the unborn and the catholic faith by attending or supporting this event.

 God Bless you.

Earlier this month the state Health Department approved a bid by Fidelis Care New York (F.C.N.Y.), which is sponsored by the eigth Roman Catholic dioceses of New York State, to take over the Buffalo based for profit Better Health Care Inc. and its 40,000 members. Both HMOs serve only medicaid patients.
Consistent with its ethical and religious policies, F.C.N.Y. does not provide family planning services , nor does it make any payments for family planning services to providers. When such services are denied, one is forced to ask the question, why?
Thousands of people will be forced to stop for a moment to think about what they are doing, which is a drastic improvement for these young girls who often find themselves going to clinics for help, where these so called care-givers advise them to have an abortion. Often within an hour of entering the clinic's doors with little if any counseling these girls find out their children are gone and they are expected to carry on as if nothing has happened to them.
They tell these girls that its a routine procedure, everybody does it. Yet nobody asks them when they return from their lunch break how the abortion went!

Thirty years ago, pro-aborts were clamoring that legalized abortion would solve all of our social problems. Today some people continue to use this as a justification for abortion.
Since America has now killed more than 36 million children to solve these social ills, the question is HOW ARE WE DOING? Well, according to a report issued by the Children's Defense Fund (CDF), each day in America 100,000 children are homeless; 8400 teens become sexually active;7945 children are reported abused or neglected;5314 children are arrested;2860 children see their parents divorce;2350 children are in adult jails;2255 teenagers drop out of school;27 die from poverty;9 children are murdered;3 children die from child abuse;and the list goes on.
We have now had almost 25years experience, 36 million dead babies and thousands of women who have been injured, raped and killed by their abortionists and yet every single social problem our nation faced before abortion's legalization is considerably worse. We have more teenage pregnancies, more hunger, more welfare, more divorces, more women and children living in poverty, more child abuse, more spousal abuse, more deadbeat dads, more gangs, more drugs, more sexually transmitted disease, more high school dropouts, more homelessness and a generally more fractured and violent society. Maybe the pro-aborts figure they aborted the wrong babies. Since they would never admit that, instead they blame this worsening of social problems on not aborting enough babies. They say that stopping abortion will make society's problems even worse.
In short, they are asking us to ignore the fact that these problems got worse when abortion was made legal and blindly accept that they'll get even worse if abortion is made illegal. This is utterly absurd. Perhaps it is time to acknowledge that killing people is a bad way to solve problems. It's morally indefensible and it apparently doesn't work. After all, no one volunteers to die to solve a social problem. They only insist that others do.

August 1997
Why do women have abortions? Some interesting statisics for the period 1975 to 1988 were reported in Louisiana. More than 99% were for the mother's mental health, less than 1% were for the mother's physical health, less than 0.1% were for fetal disability and only .04% were for rape or incest. It's a fact that........
Since the U.S Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973, more than 21 million lives have been destroyed in the womb.
An estimated 1.5 million abortions are performed every year. One, every 21 seconds. A third of all pregnancies in the U.S. end in abortion; nearly a third of all abortions are performed on teenagers.
According to Pollster Louis Harris(Inside America), 68% of all Americans think it is against God's will to destroy the life of an unborn baby and 60% believe a fetus should have rights, just like all human beings.

Things to keep in mind...

One person can make a difference. You could be that person.

While there are unwanted pregnancies, there are no unwanted children.

There is room for everyone in the pro-life movement. No one can do everything
but everyone can do something.

At our Lord's conception, Mary was given this name, Jesus. Each child conceived in the womb is named in heaven by God Who formed that unique individual in His image and planned eternity for him or her. Let us remember to share this with expectant mothers, especially those in crisis and tempted by abortion.

"Before I formed you in the womb; I knew you. Before you were born; I set you apart".

 God Bless........

Pope John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae says:"We need to bring the Gospel of life to the heart of every man and woman and to make it penetrate every part of society...This involves making clear all the consequences of this Gospel. These can be summed up as follows:human life,as a gift of God, is sacred and inviolable. For this reason, procured abortion and euthanasia are absoulutely unacceptable. Not only must human life not be taken but it must be protected with loving concern." (Sec.80-81)

My dear brothers. The power of prayer can change the world. In all of our efforts and endeavors we can never underestimate the power of prayer and must always rely upon the help of God. Please pray for a greater respect for human life and the end to abortion in our society.
O! Mary, Mother of Jesus and together with St.Michael the Archangel and the heavenly army of angels protect the unborn. Ask our Heavenly Father to forgive and convert those who advocate or practice abortion and instill in them respect and reverence for human life. Give this world the peace and justice that can only come from following Your Son Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Right to Life Committee was pleased to accept from Leo O'Grady the use of a table at the recent Irish Day at Bear Mountain. The table was a great success with people picking up brochures to take home. Members of the Orange County Right To Life helped at the table and were there to answer any questions. A poster of the Pope kissing a child was a big favorite and I was lucky enough to get one before they were all gone. It is now hanging in the hall.
Please find out who your representatives are in the U.S.Congress, Senate, State Senate and Assembly, Village, Town and School Boards. See how they feel toward abortion. If they don't agree with your opinion, don't vote them into office where they push their pro-abortion ideas onto you and your children. Don't close your eyes. They will not go away. They won't stop unless you voice your opinion and excersise your vote.
Brother Fleming was kind enough to get a prayer for the unborn made up for our meetings. These will be distributed at the meeting so we can pray for the unborn. God Bless You.
